ROLE: GOLD FEATURING: THEA
Golds are the highest caste in Penumbra, setting an example of wisdom and virtue to keep the society harmonious and on the path towards the Light. But - their freedom has corrupted them, having become hedonistic to deal with the "boredom" of having to read, learn, and teach.
As the head Gold, officially Thea conducts research on utopian societies, ethics, and politics to better Penumbra. Unofficially, she tends to spend much of her time in the Golds’ Playroom (nicknamed the Stimularium) and partaking in doses of Second Strain whenever possible.
Will you help the Golds regain their respected status or will you send them even deeper into depravity? The choice is yours...
ROLE: SILVER FEATURING: TRISTAN
Silvers are depended on for security in Penumbra, officially acting to maintain physical and spiritual harmony. They are also the administration for the Light - the religion for which Hawthorne (the Engineer) is the high priest - making sure his services are always in line with Office principles.
Tristan has since been satisfied with life in Penumbra since joining after meeting founder K. Alexander in South America, but blames all its shortcomings on the "wretched" Labyrinth.
As the head Silver, Tristan conducts daily patrols of Penumbra, including checking on Jackson and the Bronzes in the Factory and training regularly to stay prepared for subversive elements.
Will you help enforce harmony in Penumbra or will you turn a blind eye to the atrocities found within? The choice is yours…
ROLE: BRONZE FEATURING: JACKSON
Bronzes are at the bottom of the hierarchy in Penumbra, but their work is arguably the most essential. Their Factory generates power for the society, for which they work constantly - though their unending work ethic is unknowingly "enhanced" by the First Strain, which increases their focus and productivity.
Jackson, the head Bronze, has been in the Factory nearly his whole life. He frequently wonders about the mysterious disappearance of former Bronze leader Daedalus, now with increased suspicion upon recently being freed from the cloudiness of the First Strain.
Will you accept the life given to you and remain a loyal Bronze or will you escape the fog and selfishly seek out a better life in Penumbra? The choice is yours...
ROLE: NAMELESS FEATURING: FLORENCE
The Nameless are an unrecognized caste within Penumbra who their work within the Labyrinth, offering an outlet for residents to express vices not allowed within the harmonies of this society. Adding a much-needed release for Penumbra's citizens, the Office soon adopted the services of the Nameless to reduce frustration and rebellious tendencies.
Should anyone truly get to know the Nameless, they would learn the girl keeping all their secrets indeed has a name: Florence. She takes great pride in the power she attains by learning citizens' secrets.
Will you join the Nameless in enabling citizens' elicit behaviors or will learning Penumbra's darkest desires fuel your own lust for power? The choice is yours...
ROLE: AMBASSADOR FEATURING: NIKOLAI
The son of Penumbra Founder, K. Alexander, Nikolai grew up in the unique society. He is passionate about the mission of Penumbra, particularly its experimental aspects, developing what some would call an unhealthy obsession with the Labyrinth - and those that reside there.
His mother taught him Greek mythology despite his father's distaste for it. And as K. Alexander grew busier with running Penumbra, fatherly duties fell on Julian, the Office Surgeon who became Nikolai's mentor. In time, they together formed the Citizen's Project under which the highest of society would be elevated to godlike status through biological modification surgeries.
Will you uphold its virtuous mandates in favor of harmony or will you follow Nikolai down a path of sin? The choice is yours...

FEATURING: CAIN
The Vice President of Strategy, or VP(s) for short, has been a position held by Cain for many years. Seeking refuge from his troubles on the Outside, Cain found solace in Penumbra. Before long, he became founder K. Alexander's "right-hand man."
Cain is vehemently against any perversions of Penumbra's core principles and is biding his time for an opportunity for ultimate reform.
Under Cain's leadership, Internal Affairs & Quality Control assess potential dangers to harmonious living in Penumbra - and in the Office itself.
Will you enforce Penumbra's many questionable practices leading down a path to disharmony or will you fight for change to make Penumbra great again? The choice is yours...
ROLE: OFFICE SURVEILLANCE FEATURING: HARLAN
The Vice President of Operations, or VP(o), is named Harlan - a former Silver in Penumbra who was elevated to the Office after preventing a full-scale revolution from Labyrinth. He is now charge of the society's stability, to the point of paranoia.
Harlan was one of Penumbra's earliest inhabitants, believing strongly in K. Alexander's vision of the perfect society.
Harlan now spends his days with Office Surveillance, utilizing the all-seeing Panopticon tower whenever possible. He frequently hounds the Engineer, Hawthorne, to complete his important duties for the Office.
Will you serve strict watch over Penumbra upholding its founding principles or will you find it in your heart to treat citizens as humans, regardless of their societal status? The choice is yours...
ROLE: SURGERY FEATURING: JULIAN
Julian started as a simple doctor in the Office, but as medical needs within Penumbra increased, he became the Chief Surgeon.
He also became mentor to K. Alexander's son Nikolai and together created the Citizen's Project, a program under which the highest of Penumbra's residents were meant undergo surgeries to elevate them to godlike status.
But when one transformation went horribly wrong, K. Alexander suspended the Citizen's Project, alienating Julian and Nikolai. Their relationships have yet to mend, leaving Julian to return to routine Office medical exams with his Surgery team, hoping the Citizen's Project will one day thrive again.
Will you simply provide Penumbra with needed medical treatments or will you push for the Citizen's Project to return? The choice is yours...
ROLE: ENGINEER'S ASSISTANT
FEATURING: HAWTHORNE
Hawthorne was once a Gold with his sister Odessa. He was known as one of the most intelligent of Penumbra, instrumental as the Engineer of the society's self-sustaining energy system.
But when Odessa went missing, he discovered her mutilated via the Citizen's Project, turned into the Medusa. He vowed revenge, creating a weapon to destroy Penumbra and the Office. But its failure was advantageous for the Office as they required him to build a new weapon for their protection.
Will you follow the Office's orders and create a weapon of protection for Penumbra or will you help Hawthorne find a way to get back at those who butchered his sister? The choice is yours...
ROLE: MEDUSA'S ALLY FEATURING: ODESSA
When Odessa joined Penumbra she was made a Gold, which suited her as she was sharp-witted and beautiful. She jumped at the chance to join the Citizen's Project, intended to make her more powerful and virtuous - the first Gold to undergo the experiment. But all went wrong in transforming her into the Medusa, leaving her grossly disfigured. She was thusly exiled the Labyrinth.
But she has found hope in her new appearance, awaiting a chance to rejoin society.
Will you join Odessa's side and help lead the Labyrinth back to rightful residence in Penumbra or will you remain wary of their potentially violent uprising? The choice is yours...
ROLE: MINOTAUR'S ALLY FEATURING: NATHANAEL
Upon joining Penumbra, Nathanael quickly gained a reputation as the society's wisest and most virtuous citizen. He was developing into the son founder K. Alexander always wanted.
Alexander's actual son, Nikolai, proved to be far less virtuous. Jealous of the attention Nathanael received, Nikolai managed to convince his father to have Nikolai brought into the Citizen's Project, to be transformed into a Greek godlike creature. But all went wrong and Nathanael - now dubbed the Minotaur - was banished to the Labyrinth.
The surgery left him with mental instability, tirelessly working alone while simultaneously accomplishing nothing at all.
Will you aid Nathanael in his scattered plans to bring Penumbra back to greatness or will you accept the Minotaur's fate in the Labyrinth? The choice is yours...
ROLE: DAEDALUS' ALLY FEATURING: SEBASTIAN
Sebastian came to Penumbra in its Founding Year, became a Bronze and proved himself to be the most intelligent of that caste. When the time came for the construction of the Labyrinth, he was chosen by K. Alexander as the man for the job. But when Sebastian discovered the Labyrinth was intended as a testing ground for twisted experiments upon Bronzes, he was exiled into his own creation - subsequently dubbed Daedalus.
His spirits were not crushed, but his attempts to overthrow the Office from within the Labyrinth have failed - so far. The Labyrinth residents now look to Daedalus for guidance.
Will you help Daedalus lead a revolution against the Office or will you prevent Penumbra's prisoners from further harming the once-harmonious society? The choice is yours...
ROLE: ORACLE'S ALLY FEATURING: SILAS
Born in Penumbra, Silas' parents died early in his life and he was essentially raised by the Office. He and K. Alexander's son Nikolai grew up together, sharing similar strange obsessions. He fell into the position of the Oracle, happily residing within the Labyrinth while secretly relaying information back to the Office.
Somewhere between gregarious and depressed, Silas' considerable intelligence often comes across as the ravings of a madman - which proves useful for Labyrinth residents, as Silas frequently relays information from within the Office too, in the form of "revelations."
Will you follow Silas to save the Labyrinth from oppression or will you follow Silas in keeping the Office satisfied? The choice is yours...
